As evidenced by our previous selections and discussions, our group enjoys walking the line between fiction and non-fiction, reality and imagination, the past and what has yet to be created. This season is no different. Our intermingling of non-fiction texts (The Undocumented Americans, The Mother of All Questions, and How the Word is Passed) balanced well with our selected sci-fi by Rivers Solomon, our mythical journey to The House of Rust, and our multi-generational tale of the American West by Kali Fajardo-Anstine. Our examination of colonialism and revolution in the hotly debated Babel led to conversations and book selections that reverberates through following seasons. We closed our fourth season with back-to-back Indigenous authors, bringing to a beautiful conclusion our themes of connection, family, heritage, history, legacy, and the world we come from, live in, and continue to create.
